At least one in four NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021 had CTE, study finds
A study has found that at least one in four former NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021 had chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a progressive brain disease linked to repeated head injuries. Researchers note the true prevalence among deceased players could be much higher. CTE also affects athletes in other contact sports, including hockey, soccer and wrestling.
