The venomous garden shrew — why you should never kill it

The common shrew is a small venomous mammal with a distinctive pointed snout found in Polish gardens, meadows and scrubland. Despite resembling a mouse, it belongs to a completely different mammalian order. It preys on insects, snails and invertebrates, acting as a natural pest controller in gardens — making it a beneficial and protected creature.
