Silent SMS messages tracked people's locations — Polish Plus network also exploited
Citizen Lab has documented two long-running campaigns of unauthorised mobile phone location tracking. Attackers exploited SS7 and Diameter protocols, impersonated carriers from multiple countries including Poland's Plus network, and sent silent SMS messages with hidden commands to SIM cards. More than 16,000 location-tracking attempts were identified across the two campaigns.
