Mexico's Pemex bleeds the state budget dry as bonds hit junk status
Mexican government bonds have sharply deteriorated in value and are now treated by investors as junk-rated speculative assets, Bloomberg reports. The direct cause is the enormous cost of keeping state oil giant Pemex (Petróleos Mexicanos) afloat. Mexico's fiscal position continues to weaken as the government pours more money into the heavily indebted company.
