Yayoi Kusama, Japanese Art Superstar, Dies Aged 97

Yayoi Kusama, the Japanese artist celebrated for her vivid polka-dot paintings, sculptures and vast installations, died on 14 August in a Tokyo hospital at the age of 97. Her studio confirmed the death in a statement published on her official website. Kusama had worked from the 1950s through to the 2020s, achieving global superstar status despite spending decades living in a psychiatric hospital.
