Florida's Catholic bishops reject state AG's demand to allow religious vaccine exemptions
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier wrote to the state's Catholic bishops on July 31 threatening to cut funding to Catholic schools unless they accept religious exemptions from school vaccination requirements. The bishops firmly rejected his demand, noting that Florida's Catholic dioceses support vaccination and recognise no theological basis for opposing it. Catholic schools in the state only accept medically verified exemptions. Uthmeier, himself a Catholic, was rebuffed by the very religious institution he claimed to be defending.
