Meta to pay $16.68 billion in settlement over addictive features targeting children

Meta has reached a settlement with attorneys general from 29 US states and territories, who accused the company of deliberately deploying addictive design features targeting children on Facebook and Instagram. The company will pay $16.68 billion and implement new child-protection mechanisms on its platforms. The deal was announced Wednesday by Reuters.
