Astronomers discover hot ocean world doomed to be swallowed by its star

Astronomers have discovered exoplanet HD 176071 b, located about 335 light-years from Earth, which is estimated to be roughly 50% water by composition. The planet is about 2.5 times Earth's size and 8.5 times its mass, and completes one orbit in just 14 hours at a distance of roughly 1.5 million miles from its star. Extreme tidal forces are drawing the planet ever closer to its star, ultimately dooming it to be swallowed.
