China's data centres to use more electricity than South Korea by 2030

China's data centres are projected to consume a combined 774 TWh of electricity annually by the end of the decade, roughly four times their current usage, according to Wood Mackenzie researchers. That would represent around 6% of China's total electricity consumption by 2030, rising to as much as 17% by 2060. The surge is driven largely by the country's massive investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure.
