Federal court blocks FCC rule that would have flooded TV with political ads
A federal appeals court (4th Circuit) voted 2-1 to block an FCC order that would have required broadcasters to offer their lowest ad rates — known as the "lowest unit charge" — to political parties and joint fundraising committees. Four Democratic candidates challenged the ruling, arguing that US law reserves those discounted rates for individual candidates only. The court set aside the FCC decision before it was set to take effect on September 4, the start of the 60-day pre-election window.
