Australia to scrap higher private health rebate for over-65s

Australia plans to remove the higher private health insurance rebate for people aged 65 and over from April 2027, making rebates income-dependent only — matching rules for under-65s. Health economists back the change, finding that only 0.1–0.4% of insured people would drop their cover, while the government would save up to $940 million a year.
