Polestar banned from US sales after 2027 while Volvo was spared — and no one told Polestar why

Two months after the US Commerce Department barred Polestar from selling new cars in the US beyond the 2027 model year, the automaker still has no official explanation for the decision. Sister brand Volvo received its exemption in May, despite the Polestar 3 and Volvo EX90 sharing hardware, software and a factory. Both brands are owned by China's Geely, which is why both needed a waiver from US regulations targeting Chinese-linked technology.
