Missing indigo wavelength in LED lighting may help prevent childhood myopia

Researchers found that indigo light, a wavelength largely absent from indoor LED bulbs, completely prevented myopia in tree shrews whose eyes closely resemble human eyes. The findings raise the possibility that redesigning indoor lighting to better mimic sunlight could help curb the growing epidemic of childhood nearsightedness. Further human studies are needed to confirm the effect.
