Kurdish-led SDF dissolved in deal to integrate with Damascus government

The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have been dissolved, their commander announced on Tuesday. The move is a key step in the phased integration plan agreed in January with the Islamist-led government in Damascus. The SDF, which helped defeat Islamic State with US support and held swaths of northern and eastern Syria, will be incorporated into state forces. Washington had previously called the deal a "historic milestone."
