Study: astronauts suffer significant digestive problems in microgravity on the ISS
Researchers at the University of Copenhagen analysed 488 plasma samples from 52 astronauts who spent between two and nine months aboard the International Space Station during missions from 2006 to 2018. The findings confirmed that microgravity significantly disrupts the digestive system — astronauts reported problems including constipation and so-called "wet burps" or space burps. Samples were collected before, during and after missions, allowing the team to track metabolic changes over time.
