MIT engineers build 6×4 mm ingestible sensor for continuous core body temperature

MIT engineers have developed an ingestible temperature sensor measuring just 6 by 4 millimetres, capable of sending continuous core body temperature readings accurate to 0.01°C. The device is powered by a 1.55-volt coin cell battery, and a backscattering technique reduces energy consumption by outsourcing part of the power requirement to an external antenna. Existing ingestible sensors on the market were too large, posing a risk of obstructing the gastrointestinal tract.
