Lego Skylines city-builder announced at Gamescom by Paradox Interactive

In retrospect I'm not sure why it's taken Lego so long to get here: it's made Star Wars games, Batman games... heck, it even made a Fortnite game.

But at least it's finally fulfilling its destiny. The blocks that were made for building are finally being used for a city builder. Lego Skylines was announced today at Gamescom, and yeah, it looks like the perfect fit. Have a peek at the announcement below.

Looks pretty darn sweet, and looks pretty darn big. But how big?

"In this cozy, customizable city-builder, your choices bring a living, breathing metropolis to life. Go big or obsess over the details. No instructions. Unlimited space," says Paradox Interactive.

Unlimited space? For real? That's... quite a lot of space.

"Remember hospitals to keep everyone in one piece. Wheat for the donuts. Garbage collection, sewage, and all the other things that make a city click. How it all comes together is up to you. So stick your hard hat on and greenlight your weirdest ideas," Paradox says.

Sounds good to me: it's got that Lego cuteness but also looks like it doesn't skimp on the complexity.

Interestingly, Lego Skylines is being developed by Iceflake Studios, who were brought in to take over for Colossal Order on the trouble-plagued sim Cities: Skylines 2 in late 2025.
