US Navy develops new glide torpedo for anti-submarine warfare

The US Navy is seeking contractors for its Silent Anvil programme, which aims to develop an air-launched glide torpedo for anti-submarine warfare. Two options are under consideration: an entirely new torpedo dropped from aircraft or drones that glides into water and homes in acoustically on targets, or a glide kit fitted to existing torpedoes. The programme would extend anti-submarine capabilities across a wider range of manned and unmanned platforms.
