Three-part biological memory model suggests binary code can't explain how memory works

Researchers Gerard Marx of MX Biotech Ltd. and Chaim Gilon of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have proposed the Tripartite Mechanism of Memory, arguing that genuine memory emerges from three interacting biological components rather than binary 0s and 1s. Astrocytes — brain support cells — may play a key role in processing cognitive information, the model suggests. The theory implies that silicon-based AI systems face fundamental limits compared with biological memory.
