Lab supply firms sold antibodies using manipulated product images
Post-doc researcher Reese Richardson at Northwestern University found that commercial antibody suppliers were using manipulated images to demonstrate product performance. The manipulations ranged from removing background noise to copy-pasting data to fabricate results — changes that would trigger retractions in the academic literature. A broader investigation revealed the problem is widespread across multiple suppliers.
