Armenia heads for EU membership bid; Kremlin demands referendum on the move
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Yerevan will soon formally begin the process of applying for EU membership. European Commission spokesman Markus Lammert said Armenia has never been closer to the EU than it is today. The Kremlin demanded that a referendum be held on the decision, opposing Armenia's pivot away from Russia's sphere of influence.
