West Nile virus spreading in Spain and Greece — carried by mosquitoes

West Nile virus is spreading across regions of Spain and Greece, transmitted by mosquito bites. In some infected individuals the disease can progress to a severe neuroinvasive form, potentially causing encephalitis. The risk is concentrated in southern Europe during summer months when mosquito activity peaks.
