One in four NFL players may develop CTE, alarming new study warns
A major new study has found that as many as one in four NFL players could develop chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a progressive brain disease linked to repeated head impacts. The findings represent one of the most alarming estimates yet regarding the long-term health risks for American football players. CTE can currently only be confirmed post-mortem, complicating early detection and treatment.
