Manhattan-sized ice island breaks off Greenland's Petermann Glacier

A 76-square-kilometre slab of ice broke off Greenland's Petermann Glacier on August 4, forming an ice island roughly the size of Manhattan. It is the glacier's largest calving event since 2012, with satellites tracking the rapid spread of cracks before the break. Scientists warn that two even larger sections could eventually follow.
