Supercharged natural killer cells break into solid tumours in potential cancer breakthrough
Researchers have found a way to supercharge natural killer (NK) cells — powerful immune cells that attack cancer — enabling them to penetrate solid tumours and remain effective once inside. In mouse studies, these specially prepared tissue-resident cells slowed the growth of several tumours, including melanoma and head and neck cancers. The treatment worked even better when combined with the antibody drug cetuximab.
