Alzheimer's may spread through blood transfusion, UCL researchers warn
A report by Prof. John Collinge's team at University College London, published in The Lancet, suggests that Alzheimer's-related pathology may spread through infection with misfolded amyloid beta proteins. A landmark 2023 population study from Denmark and Sweden, covering one million patients, indicated a possible link to blood transfusions. The researchers are calling for new studies to investigate the transmission risk further.
