Puffins vanishing from Norway's Lofoten — population down 90% since 1979

Norway's Lofoten archipelago is losing its puffin population at an alarming rate — the Roest archipelago alone lost over 35,000 breeding pairs in a single year, and numbers have fallen by nearly 90% compared to 1979. Researchers at the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) have identified one primary cause for the collapse, linked to environmental changes in the region.
