Kalashnikov gunfire rocks Brussels for third straight day, mayor pleads for help

A gunman opened fire with an automatic weapon near Brussels Midi station on Monday night, marking the third consecutive day of shootings in the area. Saint-Gilles Mayor Jean Spinette told reporters a Kalashnikov was fired in front of children and customers at a nearby pizzeria were forced to lie on the floor. The attacker fled and had not been arrested as of Tuesday morning. The Saint-Gilles district has long struggled with drug-related violence around the station.
