Australian court finds eHarmony deceived customers with costly subscription traps

An Australian federal court has ruled that dating site eHarmony engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct by trapping thousands of customers in expensive premium subscriptions costing hundreds of dollars each. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission sued the US-based company in 2023, alleging false claims of free dating services and inadequate disclosure of subscription costs and auto-renewal terms. The ACCC said it had received hundreds of complaints about the platform.
