1,400-year-old possible human sacrifice found near Lima pyramid

Archaeologists excavating the Huaca Pucllana archaeological site in central Lima, Peru, found the skeleton of an adult male in an underground water channel, believed to be a ritual offering made roughly 1,400 years ago. The man was laid on his left side with his skull oriented toward the ocean and the nearby pyramid, suggesting deliberate placement. The discovery is linked to the sealing of a ceremonial well. The settlement was founded around A.D. 400 and occupied by successive pre-Hispanic cultures until about 1440.
