Victorian premier reverses course and commits to Suburban Rail Loop construction

Victorian Premier Ben Carroll reversed course on Tuesday, committing to push ahead with the first stage of the Suburban Rail Loop (SRL East) after a day of hinting other projects were higher priorities. Changes to the project's scope are projected to save around A$1 billion, cutting total costs by roughly 6%. The first stage covers a 26-kilometre tunnel between Cheltenham and Box Hill.
