Robotaxis are hitting the streets, but regulations and protests are slowing their spread

Driverless robotaxis are expanding in the United States but facing growing political and regulatory backlash. In New York, Governor Kathy Hochul withdrew a proposal that would have allowed driverless vehicles outside New York City after opposition from taxi drivers, unions and state lawmakers. Commercial driverless service remains illegal in the state.
