Scientists used AI to design new viruses targeting bacteria — hope and risk

Scientists have for the first time designed complete viral genomes using only generative artificial intelligence. The engineered viruses target bacteria exclusively and could one day help tackle the growing problem of antibiotic-resistant microbes. However, experts warn that the same technology could be misused to engineer harmful pathogens.
