Severe COVID-19 reactivates dormant viruses, linked to lasting physical disability

A new study published in Nature found that severe COVID-19 can reactivate dormant viruses — including Epstein-Barr, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex and anelloviruses — even in people with healthy immune systems. The reactivation of anelloviruses, normally considered harmless, was linked to persistent physical disability in long COVID patients. Researchers and independent experts called it one of the largest and most carefully conducted studies of its kind.
