Scientists create first complete 3D image of a molecule's quantum wavefunction

A team at the University of Göttingen has for the first time reconstructed a complete 3D image of a molecule's wavefunction, a core but elusive concept in quantum mechanics. By combining advanced photoelectron measurements with newly developed algorithms, they imaged the molecular orbital of a nanometre-sized organic molecule with resolution finer than the spacing between its carbon atoms.
