US–Canada trade talks collapse; Trump says Canada wants benefits of statehood
Canada's Prime Minister announced retaliatory tariffs against the US "reluctantly," accusing Washington of starting a trade war after negotiations broke down. Donald Trump claimed that Canada was seeking the "benefits" of being a US state. Talks had centred on tariffs on steel, aluminium and cars, as well as access for American alcohol to Canadian liquor stores.
