Prairieland protest sentences: 30 years for leaflets, 50 for demonstrating, 100 for shooting an officer

About a year after an anti-government protest at the Prairieland detention centre in Texas, more than a dozen detainees received exceptionally harsh sentences following charges being reclassified as terrorism offences. Penalties range from 30 years for distributing leaflets and 50 years for participating in a protest, to 100 years for shooting a police officer. Critics allege the prosecutions were designed to silence opposition to conditions inside the facility.
