Scientists 3D-printed high-protein cookies from plastic bottles and crop waste
A team at Southern Illinois University Carbondale used yeast to convert PET plastic from water bottles and plant biomass such as corn stalks into food-grade ingredients. They then 3D-printed high-protein snacks called µBites from the resulting material. The process relies on oxidative hydrothermal decomposition to break down tough plastic molecules into forms microorganisms can use.
