MeerKAT detects most distant hydroxyl megamaser ever — 8 billion light-years away

The MeerKAT radio telescope has detected the most distant hydroxyl megamaser ever recorded — a naturally occurring radio-wave equivalent of a laser — originating from colliding galaxies more than 8 billion light-years away. The discovery is significant for studying the early universe, when it was less than half its current age.
