Solar storms more dangerous than thought — Earth's magnetosphere offers less protection

New analyses suggest that the methods scientists use to link solar wind measurements with Earth's magnetospheric response may have artificially underestimated the risk of extreme solar storms. Researchers found that the magnetosphere does not "saturate" as previously assumed, meaning the real threat could be considerably greater.
