Polish government eyes unfreezing tax thresholds, but 300bn zloty deficit stands in the way

Sławomir Dudek, economist and head of Poland's Fiscal Council, said on TVN24 that tax thresholds had been frozen due to a public finance deficit of around 300 billion zloty. He warned that funding significant tax reforms would require either raising other levies or cutting social spending. The government's desire to unfreeze thresholds does not resolve the underlying fiscal imbalance, he stressed.
