SNAP soda ban cut purchases by 12%, study finds — equal to 34 cans fewer per year

A new study published by the National Bureau of Economic Research found that restrictions on using SNAP food benefits to buy soda and candy in 10 US states reduced soda purchases by about 12 percent. This translates to roughly 34 fewer 12-ounce cans per person per year. The study has not yet been peer-reviewed.
