Scientists: Australia's marine parks protect remote areas, leaving coastal zones exposed

More than 270 leading marine scientists from 84 research institutes have written to Australian Environment Minister Murray Watt, warning that the bulk of the country's highly protected marine parks are located in remote, little-visited waters. Fragile coastal ecosystems, they argue, remain largely unprotected. The letter coincides with a once-in-a-decade government review of marine parks.
