Fake bags on Tenerife: tourists face fines as high as a week's hotel stay

Police on Tenerife confiscated nearly 1,500 counterfeit bags in the popular resort areas of Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos. Under Spanish law, not only sellers but also buyers of fake goods can be fined — even if the tourist was unaware the item was counterfeit. The fine is equivalent to the cost of a week's hotel stay in the Canary Islands.
