Archbishop explains: taking communion without confession is a mortal sin if you have one on your conscience

Archbishop Stanisław Zore, Metropolitan of Ljubljana, clarified the Catholic Church's position on receiving Holy Communion without prior confession. According to Church teaching, receiving communion while in a state of mortal sin without first going to confession is itself a mortal sin. For venial sins, confession before communion is not required.
