Italian resorts fine tourists for towel-reserving spots on beaches

Several major Italian tourist resorts are deploying beach patrols and issuing fines for the practice of leaving towels, umbrellas and beach equipment to reserve spots. Croatia introduced similar measures earlier. Local authorities want to crack down on the habit, which irritates both other holidaymakers and municipal governments.
