Alcohol abstinence may prime the brain for relapse, mouse study finds

A study in mice found that alcohol abstinence more than doubled activity in a brain region linked to stress and addiction. The signal appeared before the mice drank again, leading researchers to believe it could eventually help predict which individuals are most at risk of relapse.
