Swiss tourist jailed one year for beach walk during Bali's Day of Silence
An Indonesian court sentenced a 26-year-old Swiss tourist to one year in prison for breaking the rules of Nyepi, Bali's Hindu Day of Silence and Balinese New Year. The man walked onto a beach and filmed his stroll, violating the strict prohibition on leaving one's accommodation during the holiday. Nyepi is one of the most important days in the Balinese calendar, during which silence and a ban on movement are strictly enforced.
