Russia intimidates Japan with Kuril missile drills — Tokyo stands firm

Russia's defence ministry has publicised missile drills in the Kuril Islands region, following a visit there by Vladimir Putin. Japan condemned the manoeuvres and is simultaneously developing a record defence budget. Analysts assess that Tokyo has no intention of yielding to Russian pressure.
