30 glaciers to vanish by end of summer as record melt alarms scientists
Glaciologist Matthias Huss warns that around 30 glaciers will disappear without trace by the end of summer, including Switzerland's Gries glacier. The melt rate is faster than at any point since measurements began, with Huss describing this as "one of the worst years on record." Glaciers have existed on Earth for hundreds of thousands of years, and their loss is being driven by extreme temperatures.
